Giving to the Nations, Inc. is dedicated to “advancing the lives of others”, and that is exactly what we will do through our Food Pantry. The Food Pantry will provide individuals and families in need with staple foods and hygiene products. Examples of staple foods include: canned vegetables; canned meats; bread; peanut butter; jelly; macaroni and cheese; pasta; pasta sauce; boxed meals; cereal; fresh fruits; fresh vegetables; fresh and frozen meats; butter; milk; cheese; and eggs. Hygiene products would include: toothpaste; toothbrush; soap; shampoo; deodorant; hand/body lotion; diapers; baby wipes; feminine products; band aids; and ointments.

Studies done in 2013 and 2014 labeled downtown Racine a “Food Desert”. The USDA has defined Food Deserts as “…parts of the country vapid of fresh fruit, vegetables, and other healthful whole foods, usually found in impoverished areas. This is largely due to a lack of grocery stores, farmers’ markets, and healthy food providers.” The goal of our Food Pantry is to be one of those “healthy food providers” in the Food Desert providing fresh produce, fresh and frozen meats, and dairy. The Food Pantry will be set up similarly to a grocery store experience where our clients will be allowed to shop from the product shelves, allowing the clients to maintain a degree of respect and choose items that they will utilize. We will also deliver healthy food and hygiene products to our homebound clients, ensuring that everyone who needs help gets help.

Our Food Pantry will be located at 1701 12th Street in Racine, WI. This location serves not only the internal needs of the Food Pantry, but also the needs of the community outreach programs that Giving to the Nations, Inc. will facilitate. Understanding that Giving to the Nations, Inc.’s mission is “to advance the lives of others”, we have partnered with: the UW Extension of Racine/Kenosha to hold nutrition classes inside the Food Pantry; Lakeside Curative Services (LCS) for some of our volunteer needs; the Racine County Sheriff Chaplain’s office; Racine schools; and many businesses within and outside of the Racine area (please see “Our Supporters“).

We plan to join forces with many more organizations and individuals – will you be one of them? We are excited through the generosity of all of the partners, donors, and volunteers that the Racine community is bringing together to make our location at 1701 12th Street in Racine a place to serve from and to be served – truly, A PLACE OF PROVISION.

Our food pantry is projected to be open in Winter of 2018, but we need your volunteer assistance today in order to make that projection happen!
